Online metronome

30 to 260 BPM with accented downbeats and tap tempo. Clicks ride the audio clock, so the beat holds even when your browser is busy.

Andante

100

beats per minute

Clicks are scheduled on the audio clock, not a JavaScript timer — the tempo holds steady even when the tab is busy. First beat of each bar is accented.

Practice with a beat you can trust

Most browser metronomes tick with JavaScript timers, which browsers throttle whenever the machine is busy — exactly when a wobbly beat does the most damage to your practice. This one schedules every click ahead of time on the Web Audio clock, the same mechanism audio software uses, so the interval between clicks is sample-accurate.

Using tempo well

A common practice pattern: find the fastest BPM where you can play a passage cleanly, drop 10 BPM below it, and drill there before creeping back up in 5 BPM steps — the A− / A+ style plus and minus buttons move in 5s for exactly that. Tap tempo helps you discover the BPM of a recording: tap along for a bar or two and read the number.

Timing a full practice session? Pair the metronome with the countdown timer or the pomodoro timer in another tab.

Frequently asked questions

Why doesn't this metronome drift?
Clicks are scheduled on the Web Audio clock — the same high-precision clock your browser uses to play music — rather than JavaScript timers. A busy tab can delay JavaScript, but it can't move audio that's already scheduled.
How does tap tempo work?
Tap the button in time with the music (or your head). The metronome averages the intervals between your last few taps and sets the BPM to match.
What do the tempo names mean?
They're the classical markings: Largo (under 60), Adagio (60-76), Andante (76-108), Moderato (108-120), Allegro (120-156), Vivace (156-200), Presto (200+). Sheet music often gives the name rather than a number.
Can I change the time signature?
Choose 2, 3, 4 or 6 beats per bar — the first beat of each bar is accented with a higher click so you can feel the downbeat.
